US closes mixed after IRS proposal

Major stock markets in the United States closed mixed on Tuesday after the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) asked Congress to give it authority to regulate cryptocurrencies. The Bureau of Labor Statistics revealed the figure for job openings in the country reached its record-high in April. Meanwhile, the Energy Information Administration (EIA) predicted the prices of fuel will rise by 41% this summer.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average lost 0.08% at the close, with Procter & Gamble Co. declining by 1.16%. The Nasdaq 100 went up by 0.06% as Sirius XM Holdings Inc. grew by 7.42%. The S&P stood flat.

The euro dropped by 0.13% to the dollar, selling for $1.21735 at 3:59 pm ET.
