Ten GOP senators back bipartisan infrastructure plan

Donnerstag, 17. Juni 2021 00:02

Ten Republican, nine Democratic, and one independent United States senator expressed support for bipartisan efforts to bring forward legislation on the country's infrastructure without it being funded by increasing the tax rates.

"We support this bipartisan framework that provides an historic investment in our nation's core infrastructure needs without raising taxes. We look forward to working with our Republican and Democratic colleagues to develop legislation based on this framework to address America's critical infrastructure challenges," the lawmakers said in a joint statement.

If all 48 Democrats and two independents agree to the bipartisan group's $1.2 trillion, eight-year infrastructure plan, the proposal will need support from at least ten Republicans to pass the upper chamber of US Congress. However, some liberals from the Senate Democratic Caucus, such as Bernie Sanders and Elizabeth Warren, are either outright opposing the plan or threatening to withhold support for it without other concessions.
