German consumer group VZBV on Wednesday sued Daimler AG to allow owners whose cars were affected by the diesel emissions scandal to receive compensation more easily.

"Those who may have been affected will obtain certainty over whether Daimler AG deliberately installed illegal defeat devices in several vehicle models," VZBV head Klaus Mueller stated, noting that "despite official recalls, Daimler AG to this day denies it deliberately manipulated the emissions of its cars."

The automaker recalled 254,000 Mercedes vehicles in Germany in 2018.
