US opens mostly higher with focus on data, earnings

Major stock markets in the United States opened mostly higher on Thursday, as investors digested the latest corporate quarterly earnings and data reports on the state of the economy. Initial jobless claims in the US rose for the week ending July 17, while the existing home sales data is set to be published later in the day. Meanwhile, Biogen, Abbott Labs, American Airlines, Blackstone, and AT&T reported their quarterly earnings.

The Dow Jones opened flat. The Nasdaq 100 started 0.17% in the green and the S&P 500 began 0.07% higher. CSX Corp led both indexes increasing 4.09% and 5.26% respectively.

The euro gained 0.28% against the dollar trading for $1.18268 at 9:35 am ET.
