Long-term gov't funding bill condition for annual one - McConnell

United States Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell stated on Wednesday the Republicans will not agree to the bill that dictates government funding for one full year without a previous decision on the long-term one.

"When it comes to floor consideration, we cannot and will not start planning individual trees before we have bipartisan consensus on the shape of the forest," he said.

Congress must pass a short-term government funding deal by the end of September to avoid a shutdown.
