China restricts time minors spend playing online games

China introduced harsh restrictions on Monday on the time minors spend playing online games.

Under the new limitations, all online gaming platforms will be accessible to minors only on Friday, weekends and holidays, when they will be allowed to play games for one hour, between 8 pm and 9 pm local time.

Earlier this year, China's state-run media claimed online gaming has a negative influence on children and could "destroy a generation."

Today's news sent shares of Chinese online gaming company NetEase tumbling over 6% in premarket trading in the United States.
