Tech companies agree cloud principles

Amazon, Google, Microsoft and a number of other cloud providers, including Atlassian, Cisco, IBM, Salesforce + Slack, and SAP, announced on Thursday that they have agreed on a set of operating principles on data and customer protection to govern their future work.

The so-called "Trusted Cloud Principles" express the technology industry's discontent with government regulation that requires technology companies to hand over customer data without informing customers themselves.

The signatories acknowledged the interest governments have in protecting the safety and security of citizens but emphasized the instances, in which "they seek to gain access to data under laws that do not adequately protect human rights and the rule of law, and conflict with laws of other countries."
