Shares on the major stock market indexes in the United States were mixed at the open on Tuesday with the investors' focus mainly on the Federal Reserve's (Fed) meeting scheduled to start later during the day. The decision on the interest rate and the pace of asset purchases will be unveiled on Wednesday.

With not much data to digest, the traders also monitor the slate of corporate earnings as Pfizer posted a larger-than-twofold yearly increase in revenue. Lyft, Amgen, and Mondelez are due to publish their third-quarter earnings after the session.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average increased by 0.1% as the session started with Cisco Systems up by 2.82%. At the same time, the S&P 500 was flat. The Nasdaq 100 was concurrently down by 0.11%, as Incyte dropped 6.34%. The tech-heavy index soon turned to gains and notched another record intraday high, with the S&P following suit. The euro slid 0.07% versus the dollar, selling for 1.15982 at 3:32 pm ET.
