AEP CEO: US power grid can handle influx of EVs

Saturday, 13. November 2021 05:05

American Electric Power CEO Nick Akin said that the United States power grid will be able to handle any influx of electric vehicles in the years ahead, although some parts of the grid are more prepared than others.

"We could handle it right now," Akin told CNBC, although he noted that a winter power grid failure in Texas made it clear there was a need to "be really careful about how we transition in the future."

AEP is planning a $38 billion capital investment program between 2022 and 2026, including the construction of a more efficient grid.
