Mercedes-Benz AG is in the early stages of planning to build and offer a new electric vehicle model exclusively in China from 2024, unnamed sources from corporate circles told the Handelsblatt on Thursday.

The EQE class, which is set to hit the market in 2022, would reportedly be offered in China not only in its current forms of sedan and SUV but also as a crossover between the two categories, referred to as sport utility sedan (SUS).

Daimler AG's subsidiary is also considering acquiring the majority stake in the Beijing Benz Automotive Co. Ltd. joint venture with China-based BAIC Motor Corporation Limited.
