Japanese billionaire Yusaku Maezawa went on a 12-day trip to the International Space Station on Wednesday in a Russian Soyuz spacecraft, and is set to become the first tourist from Japan to visit the ISS.

The Japanese entrepreneur has been joined by his assistant Yozo Hirano and Russian cosmonaut Alexander Misurkin for the flight. Maezawa's journey is expected to prepare him to also become the first private passenger on Elon Musk's SpaceX moon trip scheduled for 2023.
