Dow turns to gains, Nasdaq extends losses

The Dow Jones Industrial Average index and the Nasdaq 100 went into two different directions in afternoon trade on Thursday after both opened in the red. The United States Senate advanced the vote on raising the debt limit, while President Joe Biden warned that tomorrow's inflation figures will not "reflect today's reality."

The Dow Jones grew 0.20%, or 70 points, at 1:53 pm ET, led by Walgreens Boots Alliance. The Nasdaq 100 dropped 1.04% a minute later, dragged down by Peloton's 10.43% fall. The S&P 500 was down 0.30% at 1:55 pm ET, similar to where it was at the start of the trading session.

The euro was 0.49% lower compared to the dollar to go for 1.12931 at 1:56 pm ET.
