Major stock market benchmarks in the United States kicked off the trading session mostly in the red on Wednesday after they closed the prior day's session with sharp gains. Apart from the news about the COVID-19 Omicron variant, the investors monitored the latest batch of economic data.

US Bureau of Economic Analysis' third estimate showed that the US economy expanded by 2.3% in the year's third quarter, while data on consumer confidence in the country, as well as the report on existing home sales, will be published shortly after the bell.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average was flat at the open. The Nasdaq 100 slid 0.2% as the session started with Pinduoduo dropping 3.68% a minute later. The S&P 500 concurrently lost 0.07%, as Moderna plunged 3.16%. The euro advanced 0.31% compared to the euro at 9:29 am ET, selling for 1.13180.
