US opens higher after data reports

Stock markets in the United States started Thursday's session in the green on the last trading day ahead of the Christmas holidays. New data releases ahead of the opening bell showed initial jobless claims the week ending December 18 remained unchanged from the previous week at 205,000, while personal spending in November grew 0.6% and durable goods orders jumped 2.5%. In company news, Crocs agreed to acquire Hey Dude for $2.5 billion and Quidel is set to buy Ortho Clinical Diagnostics for $6 billion.

The Dow Jones added 0.29% at 9;30 am ET, as Cisco Systems gained 2.19%. The Nasdaq 100 grew by 0.18% with Paychex rising by 2.17%, and the S&P 500 improved by 0.23% at the same time, also led by Paychex.

The euro traded 0.36% lower compared to the dollar and sold for 1.12984 at 9:31 am ET.
