US closes mixed after Omicron-marked session

Major stock markets in the United States closed mixed on Tuesday following a session marked by the most recent developments concerning the Omicron strain of COVID-19. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) cut the recommended time for being in isolation after contracting the virus short. Later on, the institution commented about 59% of new cases registered in the US belong to the Omicron variant. Meanwhile, the country reported over 50,000 new infections recorded in the previous 24 hours.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average traded 0.29% higher at the close as The Walt Disney Company gained 1.57%. On the other hand, the Nasdaq 100 declined by 0.48%, with DexCom Inc. sinking by 7.09%. The S&P 500 decreased by 0.08% as Etsy Inc. plunged by 3.46%.

The euro lost 0.15% to the dollar to sell for $1.13109 at 3:58 pm ET.
