Stellantis announced on Wednesday it plans to transform its factory in Termoli, Italy, into an Automotive Cells Company (ACC) battery plant.

The carmaker also said it finalized the deal with Mercedes-Benz to join the ACC as a partner alongside TotalEnergies/Saft and Stellantis. "The partners also pledged to increase ACC's industrial capacity to at least 120 gigawatt hours (GWh) by 2030 and to expand the development and production of next-generation high-performance battery cells and modules," the carmaker added.

The ACC was created in 2020 as a joint venture of Groupe PSA/Opel and Total/Saft. Since then, Groupe PSA has merged with Fiat Chrysler to create Stellantis.
