US opens higher amid Ukraine clashes, oil data

American markets opened with gains on Friday's session as the crisis in Ukraine continued with the Russian army partly managing to create a corridor between the occupied Crimea and the Donetsk region. Furthermore, Mariupol officials declared that 300 civilians died in the Russian bombings of the city's Drama Theatre.

Elsewhere, the prices of oil futures decreased after the European Union announced it has reached a deal with the United States over additional deliveries of liquefied natural gas (LNG) to the bloc.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average traded 0.18% or 72 points higher at 9:32 am ET, dragged up by International Business Machines Corp's 0.72% surge at 9:40 am ET, while the Nasdaq 100 rose by 0.15%, with DexCom climbing 2.01% at 9:35 am ET. Furthermore, the S&P 500 gained 0.22%. The euro lost 0.08% to the dollar at 9:31 am ET to sell for $1.00056.
