US markets open lower after data reports

Major stock indexes in the United States opened lower on Thursday after data reports on jobless claims and personal spending were released. The US initial jobless claims increased by 14,000 to 202,000 in the week ending March 26 of 2022, while personal spending in the country expanded by less than expected 0.2% or $34.9 billion in February.

On the earnings front, Walgreens Boots Alliance Inc. revealed that its revenue in the second quarter of 2022 has reached $33.8 billion. Meanwhile, OPEC decided to increase its monthly oil production.

The Dow Jones fell 0.30% or 108 points at 9:31 am ET, with Walgreens Boots Alliance plummeting 5.86% at 9:32 am ET. The S&P 500 lost 0.18% at 9:31 am ET, with PVH Corp plunging 3.47% at the same time. The Nasdaq 100 was down 0.26% at 9:33 am ET, as Micron Technology decreased 1.20% a minute later.

The euro was 0.68% lower against the dollar at 9:29 pm ET, selling for $1.10839.
