The Quad group consisting of the United States, Australia, Japan and India is set to announce a new maritime initiative next week with the goal of curbing illegal fishing by China in the Indo-Pacific, the Financial Times reported citing a US official.

The four countries are planning to create a tracking system by connecting surveillance centers in Singapore, India and the Pacific by satellite technology. According to the report, the plan is expected to be unveiled at a summit in Tokyo on Tuesday by US President Joe Biden and prime ministers of the three other countries. The official alleged that China is behind 95% of illegal fishing in the region.

Ahead of the Quad summit, China slammed the alliance, calling it "outdated" and accusing the countries of "Cold War zero-sum mentality."
