German carmaker Mercedes-Benz reported on Monday a 16% decline in annual deliveries for the second quarter of 2022, saying it distributed 490,000 units amid constraints related to the global shortages of semiconductor chips and supply chain issues.

However, Mercedes said that the demand for its vehicles remained strong, with the sales of its electric vehicles soaring 90% to 23,500 units and Mercedes-Maybach sales jumping 25% to set a new all-time high of 4,400 units.

Commenting on the data, board member Britta Seeger said that "customer demand remains high. This is an honor and obligation for us. We are making every effort to fulfill customer expectations, despite the current supply restrictions."
