US closes lower on data reports

Major stock indexes in the United States traded lower at close on Monday, after struggling for direction throughout the day, as it was revealed that the manufacturing activity in the country expanded at a slower pace. Construction spending in the US fell 1.1% on a monthly basis.

On the earnings front, Caterpillar, Uber, PayPal, eBay and Starbucks are all scheduled to share their quarterly results later this week, while Pinterest will be revealing its earnings report today, after the closing bell.

The Dow Jones fell 0.14% at the closing bell, as Chevron decreased 1.97%. At the same time, the S&P 500 lost 0.28%, with its worst performer Royal Caribbean plunging 7.57%. The Nasdaq 100 declined 0.06% at the close, as Biogen tumbled 2.70%. The euro gained 0.32% against the dollar at 3:59 pm ET, selling for 1.02582.
