Wall Street mostly lower with FOMC minutes in focus

United States major stock markets opened mostly lower Tuesday before the publication this week of the Federal Open Market Committee's (FOMC) minutes on monetary policy and amid corporate reports.

Walmart posted earlier favorable results, with profits and revenue better than expected, a day after it was known that the retail giant had struck a deal with Paramount. On the data front, the Census Bureau said that privately-owned housing units approved by building permits in the country during July declined by 1.3%. The Federal Reserve's Board of Governors stated that industrial production rose by 0.6% monthly.

The Dow Jones gained 0.10% at 9:31 am ET, with Walmart up 4.31%. A minute later, the Nasdaq 100 fell 0.22%, while Zoom Video decreased by 4.37%. The S&P 500 declined 0.08%, as Charles River Laboratories dropped by 3.21%.

The euro was flat against the dollar at 9:28 am ET, selling for $1.01592.
