US edges lower at open, Jackson Hole conference in focus | ![]() |

Major stock indexes in the United States traded mostly lower at the open on Wednesday, as investors braced for the Federal Reserve's Jackson Hole Economic Symposium, which will be taking place from August 25 to August 27. Traders will be looking for updates on where the economy is headed, as well as for cues on the central bank's upcoming monetary policy moves. On the data front, the country's durable goods in July were almost unchanged, while the report on the US pending home sales is scheduled to be released shortly after the market open. In other news, Nvidia and Salesforce will be releasing their quarterly earnings reports later during the day. The Dow Jones lost 0.14% at the opening bell, as Walgreens Boots Alliance tumbled 1.46% at 9:31 am ET. The S&P 500 fell 0.08% at 9:30 am ET, with Twitter dragging the index down by 2.53% a minute later. The Nasdaq 100 was flat at the open. The euro traded 0.48% lower against the dollar at 9:29 am ET, selling for 0.99224. |
