Major United States stock indexes opened lower on Tuesday as the country awaits its next Federal Reserve meeting when they are expected to make another interest rate hike by 75 basis points.

The Dow Jones slid 0.74% or 228 points at 9:30 am ET, while Nike Inc marked a decrease of 2.71%. The Nasdaq 100 went down by 0.82% as PayPal Holdings dropped by 3.48%. At the same time, the S&P 500 decreased by 0.78%. PayPal Holdings' stocks fell by 4.20%.

The euro lost 0.65% against the dollar at 9:30 am ET, selling for 0.99593.
