US opens higher with inflation, earnings ahead

Stock indexes in the United States started the week with gains ahead of major data reports and the start of the earnings season. On Thursday, the September inflation figure will be published, with projections putting it at 8.1%, compared to August's 8.3%. Federal Reserve members continue to signal a restrictive monetary policy is likely to be sustained "for some time," with rates going up to 4.5%.

The Dow Jones grew by 0.48% at 9:30 am ET, led by Merck & Co. Inc. at 3.38%. The Nasdaq 100 added 0.09%, with Walgreens Boots Alliance jumping 4.23%. The S&P 500 was up by 0.28% as Fortinet increased by 2.51%.

The euro traded 0.42% lower compared to the dollar, going for 0.97009 at 9:31 am ET.
