Wall Street closed mostly lower on Wednesday following the release of the readout from the previous Federal Reserve monetary policy meeting in September. Among other remarks, policymakers noted interest rates will have to stay high for an extended period so price stability could be restored, but also added that "it would be important to calibrate the pace of further policy tightening" considering "the risk of significant adverse effects on the economic outlook."

The Dow Jones Industrial Average index was down 0.10% at the close with Walgreens Boots Alliance, its worst performer, falling 2.05%. The Nasdaq 100 was flat at the end of the trading session. The S&P 500 closed 0.33% lower. Albemarle dragged the index down, plummeting 7.89%.

The euro decreased by 0.06% compared to the dollar to change hands for 0.97008 at 3:59 pm ET.
