Mercedes-Benz AG announced on Thursday that it signed an agreement with Rock Tech Lithium Inc. in which they agreed that the Canadian enterprise will supply the German carmaker with batteries for electric vehicles (EVs) starting from 2026.

According to the company's statement, Mercedes-Benz will receive about 10,000 tonnes of battery-grade lithium hydroxide a year, which should be enough for approximately 150,000 EVs.

"Together with additional sourcing partnerships in the future, the on average 10,000 tonnes of lithium per annum will play a key role in securing the lithium supply for our battery production in Europe, to help achieve our ambitious electrification goals," member of the Mercedes-Benz Group AG Management Board, Markus Schaefer, commented.
