Musk: Some Twitter bans breached 1st Amendment

Saturday, 03. December 2022 03:31

After the release of a trove of Twitter Inc. documents by journalist Matt Taibbi, the company's new CEO Elon Musk said that company correspondence seems to contain evidence of a violation of the US Constitution's First Amendment that protects free speech.

One of the emails Taibbi published showed that company officials informed other colleagues that they removed tweets that "the Biden team" had complained about. Taibbi also shared that 96.38%-99.73% of Twitter employees donated money to the Democratic Party from 2018 to 2022.

"Twitter acting by itself to suppress free speech is not a 1st amendment violation, but acting under orders from the government to suppress free speech, with no judicial review, is," Musk tweeted today.
