Asian markets mostly lower after data

Asian markets were mostly lower on Friday as investors digested fresh economic data and coronavirus developments. Earlier, the Statistics Bureau of Japan revealed core consumer prices fell 0.1% in April from a year earlier while the latest Jibun Bank Flash Japan Manufacturing Purchasing Managers' Index for Japan weakened in May.

In China, the Shanghai Composite dipped 0.58% as the Shenzhen Composite lost 0.95% at 4:30 am CET. The Nikkei 225 was 0.44% higher in Tokyo at the time, while the Kospi Composite fell 0.16%. The Hang Seng was down 0.51% in Hong Kong. Meanwhile in Sydney, the S&P/ASX 200 declined 0.08%.

The dollar was up 0.07% against the Japanese yen at 4:35 am CET, buying ¥108.856.
