Asia-Pacific trades mixed after China manufacturing data

Asian markets traded mixed on Tuesday following the release of manufacturing growth statistics from China. The latest Caixin/Markit manufacturing Purchasing Managers’ Index (PMI) for May came in slightly above expectations at 52.

In China, the Shanghai Composite and the Shenzhen Composite were just below the flatline at 7:30 am CET. The Nikkei 225 was 0.26% lower in Tokyo at the time, while the Kospi Composite climbed 0.51%. The Hang Seng rose 0.44% in Hong Kong. Meanwhile in Sydney, the S&P/ASX 200 declined 0.18% after the country's central bank held interest rates.

The dollar was down 0.05% against the Japanese yen at 7:35 am CET, buying ¥109.520.
