Asia trades mixed as Delta COVID variant raises fresh concerns

Major stock markets in the Asia-Pacific region traded lower at the start of the week, with the morning session in Hong Kong canceled due to a black rainstorm warning issued ahead of the opening bell.

Meanwhile, the Bank of Japan asserted inflation is likely to increase in the second half of the year. The Nikkei 225 fell 0.07%, while the dollar lost 0.11% against the yen to trade for 110.6655 at 4:09 am CET. In mainland China, the Shanghai Composite declined 0.11% and the Shenzhen Composite rose 0.57% at 3:58 am CET.

The Australian government tightened COVID-19 restrictions in Queensland to curb the local outbreak, while Sydney underwent a two-week lockdown. The S&P/ASX 200 dropped 0.10% at 4:11 am CET. South Korea's Kospi Composite tumbled 0.32% at 4:13 am CET.
