Asia mostly lower after Japan manufacturing data

Major stock markets in the Asia-Pacific region posted losses on Monday near the end of the session, with concerns surrounding the resurgence of the coronavirus pandemic dominating investors' focus.

Japan reported its manufacturing data for this month, saying its factory activity decelerated below market estimates but still remained above the 50 no-change mark. The Nikkei 225 soared 0.98% or 270 points at 7:12 am CET, with the dollar losing 0.20% against the yen to trade for 110.3290.

The rest of the market indexes stood in the negative territory. The Kospi Composite fell 0.68% and the Hang Seng tumbled 3.23% or 883 points at 7:13 am CET. The S&P/ASX traded flat. In mainland China, the Shanghai Composite declined 2.30% and the Shenzhen Composite tumbled 2.42% at 7:01 am CET.
