TEKLA HOSTS IFC IMPLEMENTER SUPPORT MEETING IN ESPOO, FINLAND

Tekla Corporation will host the International Alliance for
Interoperability (IAI) Implementer Support Group (ISG) meeting in
Espoo, Finland, on 21-23 May 2007. The meeting will focus on the 1st
and 2nd step Industry Foundation Classes (IFC) 2x3 certification and
review the items that were documented at the Boston workshop in
March.

The meeting participants represent software vendors and organizations
for structural engineering from several countries: Autodesk (US),
Bentley (US), Vizelia (US), Archimen Group (France), Robobat
(France), Forschungszentrum Karlsruhe (Germany), Nemetschek
(Germany), RIB Software (Germany), SCIA (Belgium), TNO (The
Netherlands), Graphisoft (Hungary), DDS (Norway), Norconsult
(Norway), Kymdata (Finland), Progman (Finland), Solibri (Finland),
and Tekla (Finland).

The ISG meeting on 23 May will focus on agreeing on a framework for
the continuous development of IFC-based communication between
software solutions for structural engineering. The main IFC-based
workflow in building and construction starts with the architectural
design and continues to structural modeling and analysis. From the
analysis, the building information returns back into structural
modeling.

IFC
The IAI issued the first, full release of its Industry Foundation
Classes (IFC) information model in January 1997. Several further
releases have been issued since. IFCs have been endorsed by the
International Standards Organization (ISO) as a Publicly Available
Specification (PAS) under the label ISO/PAS 16739. Issued in October
2000, the IFC 2x3 marked a major change in the way that IFCs are
developed and released. It has created a framework for the
development of models that can progressively extend the range and
capability of IFCs in a modular way. More information at
