German police have detained Jörg Kerner on Thursday, who is an executive at Porsche AG, in order to prevent him from fleeing, as a part of an investigation into the diesel emissions manipulation scandal, the company confirmed to AFP on Friday. The arrest was done at the request of the public prosecutor's office in Stuttgart. Kerner is leading powertrain development at the sports car manufacturer, which is a part of the Volkswagen Group.

The Chief Executive Officer of Porsche Oliver Blume hinted in a staff letter earlier in the day that law enforcement has been after "a member of the board" since April 18. The letter also states that Kerner now works at Audi.

Media reported on Wednesday that German prosecutors have conducted raids in the country's southern states of Baden-Wuerttemberg and Bavaria, probing former and present Porsche executives on fraud and misleading advertising allegations. "We reject this accusation and do our utmost to put everything right," wrote Blume in the letter to the employees.
