Europe ends lower as trading year nears end

Markets in Europe ended the last complete trading session of 2019 in the red despite trade optimism fueled by White House trade adviser Peter Navarro who stated the two sides are set to sign their phase one trade agreement within the next seven days. The Frankfurt Stock Exchange will be closed tomorrow, while sessions in London and Paris will be shortened on the last day of the year.

The FTSE 100 fell 0.76%. Bae Systems and Ferguson led the losses with both companies losing 2.10%.

The DAX declined 0.66% with MTU Aero Engines, down 1.70%, as the worst performer.

The CAC 40 slid 0.84%. EssilorLuxottica pulled the index down as its shares dropped 3.05%.

The euro gained 0.36% against the dollar to sell for 1.12153 at 5:32 pm CET.
