Lufthansa AG said on Tuesday it will reduce its leadership positions by 20% in the second set of measures to curb the coronavirus impact. The company is set to cut another 1,000 administration jobs as well, while the largest European commercial carrier plans to ax one position in executive boards of each Lufthansa Cargo AG, LSG Group, and Lufthansa Aviation Training.

"Due to the long-term effects of the coronavirus pandemic, which are particularly serious for air travel, there is a calculated personnel surplus of at least 22,000 full-time positions in the companies of Lufthansa Group even in the period following the crisis," the airline said in a statement.

Meanwhile, Lufthansa halved its annual new aircraft allowance that previously stood at 80, aiming to cut costs amid the coronavirus crisis.
