DAX plunges nearly 200 pts with US elections in focus

While the result of the United States presidential elections remained uncertain, major European stock markets opened deep in the red on Wednesday. Meanwhile, European Central Bank executive Fabio Panetta is expected to make a public speech.

The DAX plunged 1.81% or 179 points, with Heidelbergcement AG dropping by 5.62% at 9:05 am CET. The FTSE 100 dropped 1.10% with Intercontinental Hotels Group moving in the red by 5.44%, while the CAC 40 fell 1.20% at the same time, as Renault fell by 3.90%.

The euro lost 0.34% to sell for $1.16625 at 9:08 am CET, while the pound declined by 0.77% to go for $1.29268 at the same time.
