Europe opens mostly higher, pandemic remains in focus

European markets opened mostly higher on Wednesday as investors continued to monitor developments surrounding the coronavirus pandemic. Stocks rallied this week due to positive news from Pfizer on its COVID-19 vaccine candidate, however, rising infection numbers continued across a number of European countries.

The DAX opened 0.33% higher as RWE AG led the gains in Frankfurt. The CAC 40 started 0.27% in the gree; Unibail-Rodamco-Westfield was up 0ver 1.50%. The FTSE 100 opened flat.

The euro declined 0.02 against the dollar at 9:05 am CET, buying 1.18065. At the same time, the pound jumped 0.28% compared to the dollar, to go for 1.32844.
