Pfizer Inc. and BioNTech SE confirmed they would supply the European Union with 200 million doses of their vaccine candidate against coronavirus, with an option of the bloc requesting additional 100 million shots. European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen previously announced that the European Union planned to buy 300 million doses of Pfizer and BioNTech's vaccine "once it becomes available." Earlier this week, the two companies stated their vaccine candidate had shown 90% efficiency in treating COVID-19 in the third phase of the trials. |
