Europe starts higher on projected US Democrats Senate win

Major European stock markets opened in the green on Thursday after a projected win for Democrats in the United States Senate and pro-Trump followers' riots in the US Capitol building. Investors are also monitoring the data to be reported. The European Commission will report on the consumer confidence and overall business climate within the bloc while Eurostat will release data on the EU consumer price index and retail sales.

The FTSE 100 jumped 0.64% at 9:04 am CET as Smurfit Kappa Group Plc grew by 3.74% at 9:03 am CET. The DAX climbed 0.28% at 9:02 am CET, with HeidelbergCement growing 3.47%. The CAC 40 rose 0.22% at 9:04 am CET. Teleperformance went up by 2.62%.

The euro fell by 0.07% against the dollar to sell for 1.23151 at 8:58 am CET and the pound decreased by 0.19% compared to the US currency to go for 1.35836 a minute later.
