Europe opens mostly flat ahead of economic reports

Major European markets opened mostly flat on Wednesday ahead of European Central Bank Christine Lagarde's remarks on the current state of the economy, heavily affected by the coronavirus pandemic. Traders will also keep an eye on the European Union's results in industrial production in November. Meanwhile, British Health Secretary Matt Hancock stated the government was planning to vaccinate those deemed most vulnerable against COVID-19 by February 15.

The DAX and the FTSE 100 both stood flat at the opening. Meanwhile, the CAC 40 went down by 0.06% as Engie SA dropped by 1.07%.

The euro stood flat against the dollar, selling for $1.22062 at 8:57 am CET. A minute later, the pound sterling increased by 0.14% against the greenback to change hands for $1.36842.
