Europe opens mixed with Trump impeachment in focus

Major stock markets in Europe opened mixed on Thursday following the second impeachment of United States President Donald Trump on the grounds he incited violence during the protests at Capitol Hill. While praising the move, President-elect Joe Biden urged senators to remain focused on the ongoing economic crisis.

In addition to the impeachment process, traders will also keep an eye on the forthcoming report on Germany's real growth in the gross domestic product (GDP).

The DAX opened 0.21% higher, with Heidelbergcement AG going up by 1.78%, while the FTSE 100 and the CAC 40 stood flat. The euro lost 0.07% to the dollar to sell for $1.21459 at 8:58 am CET. A minute later, the pound sterling rose by 0.19% against the greenback, changing hands for $1.36554.
