Europe closes mixed amid virus vaccine discussions

Major stock markets in Europe closed mixed on Wednesday amid various talks concerning vaccines against COVID-19. European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said the European Union would get 50 million doses of Pfizer Inc. and BioNTech SE's jabs earlier than expected. The European Medicines Agency (EMA) stated it was still reviewing if there was a link between Johnson and Johnson's (J&J) vaccine and the emergence of blood clots. Meanwhile, the Eurozone revealed it had seen a monthly drop of 1.0% in its industrial production.

The DAX traded 0.13% lower at the close as Deutsche Post AG declined by 2.06%. On the other hand, the FTSE 100 rose by 0.71%, with Glencore PLC going up by 5.30%. Meanwhile, the CAC 40 grew by 0.45% as LVMH advanced by 2.71%.

The euro gained 0.22% against the dollar to sell for $1.19745 at 5:29 pm CET. At the same time, the pound sterling increased by 0.30% against the greenback to change hands for $1.37931.
