Oxford University researchers conducted a study that found that the rate of occurrence of cerebral venous sinus thrombosis (CVST) or blood clots in those that received the coronavirus vaccines made by Pfizer Inc. and BioNTech SE, and Moderna Inc. is similar to the rate of those that received the AstraZeneca vaccine, CBS News reported on Thursday.

According to the report, the study showed that about 4 in every 1 million people, who get the Pfizer/BioNTech and Moderna's vaccines, experienced blood clots, while for AstraZeneca the rate was 5 in 1 million. Furthermore, the study showed that comparatively, those that were infected with COVID-19 had a 95 times higher risk of experiencing a blood clot than those that didn't. This suggests that vaccines are still much less risky than contracting the virus when it comes to CVST, with ten times less likely for them to occur in people that were vaccinated with the American-made vaccines and eight times with the AstraZeneca vaccine.

The study is a direct contradiction to earlier statements by Moderna, as well as those made by the Chief Medical Advisor to the United States President, Dr. Anthony Fauci, who noted there were "no red flags" on the use of the Pfizer/BioNTech and Moderna vaccines.
