Siemens AG announced on Monday that it has partnered with Google LLC's Google Cloud Platform to enable artificial intelligence solutions for industrial manufacturing.

According to the statement. the move is meant to boost factory processes and optimize productivity on the shop floor. Siemens also added that they want to use AI-based applications to do a visual inspection of products and predict the wear-and-tear of machines among other things, saying that the aim is "automating mundane tasks, and improving overall quality."

Vice-President for Control at Factory Automation of Siemens Digital Industries Axel Loren stated: "The potential for artificial intelligence to radically transform the plant floor is far from being exhausted. Many manufacturers are still stuck in AI ‘pilot projects’ today – we want to change that. Combining AI/ML technology from Google Cloud with Siemens’ solutions for Industrial Edge and industrial operation will be a game-changer for the manufacturing industry."
