Spain considers delaying second Pfizer, Moderna doses - report

The Spanish Health Ministry is considering delaying the second dose of Moderna and Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine for people younger than 80 who have already received the first shot.

If the government proceeds with the possible decision revealed on Monday, most of the country's population will receive the second vaccine dose after eight weeks instead of the original three in the case of Pfizer, or four with Moderna. The ministry defended the move citing positive effects which resulted after similar decisions were made in the United Kingdom and Israel, where mass immunization was achieved faster compared to other countries.

Local newspaper El Mundo reported the news citing documents sent by the ministry to the Public Health Commission, which should make a final decision on the matter in the upcoming weeks.
