Tata Motors Ltd.'s Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) announced on Thursday it is suspending production in two of its plants in the United Kingdom due to the global shortage of semiconductors, which emerged from the COVID-19 pandemic.

"Like other automotive manufacturers, we are currently experiencing some COVID-19 supply chain disruption," the company said. "We are working closely with affected suppliers to resolve the issues and minimize the impact on customer orders wherever possible."

JLR thus became the latest company that is forced to halt production due to the shortage of chips, following the likes of General Motors, Ford, and Stellantis. Earlier, its Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Thierry Bollore stated the company is planning to become an all-electric luxury brand by 2025.
