Europe closes higher with data, vaccines in focus

Major European stock markets ended Monday's trading session higher with coronavirus vaccines on the forefront of the day's news. The European Union filed a lawsuit against AstraZeneca over the company's failure to deliver contracted vaccine doses to the bloc, with AstraZeneca saying it will "strongly defend itself in court."

In other vaccine news, French pharmaceutical company Sanofi stated it would help with the manufacturing of Moderna's coronavirus vaccine starting September. Meanwhile, Germany's April Business Climate Index was lower than expected, but still slightly up from March.

The DAX ended the session up by 0.14%, with MTU Aero Engines rising by 3.10%. The FTSE 100 increased by 0.43% at the closing bell, led by Rolls-Royce Holdings PLC which was up by 5.78%. The CAC 40 closed its trading day 0.39% in the green, as Unibail-Rodamco-Westfield SE rose by 4.56%. The euro decreased 0.16% compared to the dollar trading for 1.20786 at 5:41 pm CET, while the pound went flat against the American currency trading for 1.38846 concurrently.
