Europe opens mostly flat on data, earnings

Major European stock markets opened the Thursday trading session mostly flat, as economic data reports and corporate earnings reports continue to be published. Volkswagen, UniCredit, ArcelorMittal, ING, and Societe General reported revenue increases in the first quarter of the year, while Germany unveiled that factory orders jumped 3% in March according to the country's Federal Statistical Office Destatis.

The CAC 40 and the FTSE 100 stood flat at the opening bell, with Societe Generale and Melrose Industries PLC leading the indexes with rises of 4.17% and 2.20% respectively. The DAX opened 0.10% higher, with Volkswagen AG leading the index with an increase of 2.02% at 9:03 am CET.

The euro increased against the dollar 0.12% trading for $1.20195 at 9:04 am CET, while the pound stayed flat against the American currency trading for $1.39058 concurrently.
