The United States State Department issued a statement condemning the bomb attacks that occurred Saturday afternoon on students leaving their high school in Kabul.

The US called the attacks "barbarous," adding that it called for an "immediate end to violence and the senseless targeting of innocent civilians." Additionally, the department stated that they will "continue to support and partner with the people of Afghanistan" so that "gains of the past two decades aren’t erased," while also offering the country's condolences to the victims and their families.

The bomb attacks happened in a largely Shia Muslim neighborhood, and so far at least 55 people have been killed and over 150 have been injured, mostly girls and teachers from the high school. So far no group has claimed responsibility for the attack, although reports have implicated the Taliban or the Islamic State, with the former denying all accusations and also condemning the attack.
